Community School District 28

Betina Severin

Literacy Instruction Specialist

Ms. Severin

Betina Severin’s journey in education began in the NYC Department of Education’s District 28 as a teacher within the NYC Teaching Fellows program. Since then, she has served as an assistant principal, Teacher Development and Evaluation Coach, and principal.

One of Betina’s core commitments is developing professional learning communities and opportunities for school leaders to build teacher capacity. As a Teacher Development and Evaluation Coach, Severin fostered a culture of continuous improvement. By designing and facilitating professional learning opportunities, she enabled teachers and school leaders to embrace culturally responsive pedagogical practices, deliver and receive feedback, and critically reflect.

In her experience in school leadership, Severin has engaged in team development, data analysis, and curriculum implementation. Through strategic initiatives and collaborative efforts, she has contributed to significant improvements in student achievement. Betina brings a variety of experiences to the District 28 team, where she is currently serving as a Literacy Instructional Specialist. James Baldwin’s statement, “Not everything that is faced can be changed, but nothing can be changed until it is faced,” is a guiding principle for Severin. She is committed to confronting challenges to ensure optimal outcomes for all students.
