Cherise Black

Director of Continuous Improvement

Ms. Kong

Cherise Black developed a love for learning and education, from an early age. Her career journey started as an educator with the NYC Department of Education in District 27. As a classroom and science teacher, she successfully impacted student achievement. After 11 years in the classroom, she sought to impact student achievement on a larger scale and pursued a degree in administration. Cherise became a Teacher Development Evaluation Coach (TDEC). As a TDEC, she provided School Leaders with feedback, support, and recommendations relative to improving the quality of observation and feedback practices, utilizing the Danielson Framework for Teaching Rubric to refine their instructional lens. Additionally, she provided comprehensive support to a few Focus Schools in District 17, helping to strengthen their systems and structures to improve professional learning, teacher capacity and student outcomes. Currently, as a Director of Continuous Improvement, Cherise supports schools by increasing their usage of data analysis to improve systems and structures that will successfully impact instructional capacity of school leaders and their staff. She is adept in supporting school teams in the use of strategies for progress monitoring, intended to improve their instructional programs to impact student achievement. Her belief that the infusion of intentional progress monitoring and data analysis into systems of education is key to transforming education to enhance student outcomes, keeps her enthusiastic and energized after over eighteen years of dedicated service.
