Dr. Jo Ann Benoit

Dr. Jo Ann Benoit is a mother, educator, lifelong learner, servant leader, and multilingual learner. Dr. Benoit has been in education for over three decades and with the NYCDOE for over 24 years, having started in the classroom. She currently works as the Executive Director of School Support in Community School District 28. Before taking on this role, Dr. Benoit worked at the Central Office within the Division of School Leadership as Senior Executive Director of Instruction, Student Support and Professional Learning; as a coach and mentor and recently became certified as a yoga and mindfulness teacher within the NYCDOE as a way to enhance the support that she provides her constituents as she engages their whole selves. Her career’s foci have been to support the system’s most vulnerable students including English Language Learners, Students in Temporary Housing, and Students with Disabilities and their teachers, as well as building the capacity of leaders to best support these scholars. Jo Ann supported schools at many levels, as a staff developer, an instructional specialist, Special Services Manager, Achievement Coach and eventually as Deputy Network Leader for Instruction and Director of English Language Learners in the Region, Network, Cluster and Field Support Center structures. She is an active community member who is involved with several community and leadership organizations focusing on and supporting children and educators. She has received numerous awards from the City Council of NYC as well as that of Nassau County and from several community organizations for her activism and service.

Dr. Benoit holds a bachelor’s degree from Pace University, a master’s degree of arts in secondary education from New York University, and a master’s degree of science in Educational Leadership from The College of St Rose as well as her doctoral degree in Educational Leadership from Northcentral University. She also attended programs and completed courses throughout the years at both Medgar Evers College and Harvard University.
