Supervisor of School Social Workers
Kali Council has been in the field of social work for 25 years, working with children, families, at risk and high need populations within various settings. Kali began her DOE career as a school social worker with School Based IEP teams for a period of 10 years, gaining extensive knowledge of the special education process, policies, and compliance. This experience strengthened her advocacy for students, as she helped their navigation through the educational system. Kali’s mission to champion the process that focuses on the mental health and social emotional development of students, has supported her personal vision of ensuring that the needs of the “whole student” are considered, that their individual needs are met, all with the goal of them becoming successful lifelong learners by way of their own unique capabilities. Currently, in her role as Supervisor of School Social Workers, Kali builds the capacity of school social workers through professional development, coaching and mentoring in all areas of relevant expertise and functionality. Additionally, Kali provides case consultation and crisis support to school social workers, furthering their ability to implement a multi-tiered system of social-emotional/mental health supports and troubleshooting issues that emerge from their schools.
