LaVada Palmer
District Literacy Interventionist
LaVada Palmer is a dedicated educator with over two decades of experience in the New York City Department of Education. She began her career in 2001 as a fourth-grade General Education teacher in District 28, where she developed a passion for improving literacy outcomes. This led her to teach middle school content-based literacy in District 16, where she was able to further address student literacy challenges. In 2016, LaVada joined the Universal Literacy Initiative (ULit) as a Reading Coach, working with schools across northern Brooklyn.
Palmer holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from York College, a Master of Science in Education from Mercy College, and an Advanced Certificate in School Building and District Leadership from The College of Saint Rose.
Currently, she serves as the District Literacy Interventionist, using the multi-tiered system of support (MTSS) framework to help at-risk students overcome reading challenges. With advanced training in LETRS, AIM’s Institute and Research, and dyslexia intervention training, Palmer is committed to closing the literacy gap through evidence-based practices, proudly serving in District 28.
