Applying to middle school for next year?
Below are the key dates for families applying during the 2024-2025 school year for admission to the 2025-2026 school year. Please scroll down further to see the dates of our upcoming admissions events.
- Wednesday, October 9, 2024: Middle School Application Opens
- Friday, November 8, 2024: Deadline to register to test for Mark Twain I.S. 239 and District 21 Talent Tests
- Friday, December 13, 2024: Middle School Application Closes
- Wednesday, April 9, 2025: Middle School Offer Release
Updates to this upcoming middle school admissions process:
- Families can now list any New York City public middle school on their application!
- Zoned schools will continue to prioritize zoned students for seats.
- Most programs will also have a district priority, which means that seats will first be filled by students and residents of the district.
- If seats remain, students and residents from other districts will be considered
- A strong middle school application:
- Includes programs in the district(s) where your child lives or goes to school.
- Includes some programs with an average level of demand (1-2 applicants per seat)
Virtual Admissions Events
All NYC families of current fifth-grade students are invited to join us for a live virtual information session about applying to middle school. After the presentation, we'll respond to your questions. Each event will be virtual, so you can join from anywhere!
During each online event, we will discuss:
- How to access your MySchools.nyc account.
- How to learn about your child's middle school options.
- How to apply and how offers are made.
